9. Where can I
find information about the Queen's illnesses?
Any good biography
on the Queen will mention her physical ailments. Her most serious illness
was her attack of the small pox in 1562, and in the late 1560's early 1570's
she suffered from an ulcer on her leg that gave her considerable discomfort
for several years. Books that deal especially with her illnesses
are few. I have come across two, but both were written a long time ago,
and medical knowledge has advaced since then. But they are still useful
in listing her medical complaints.
Arthur MacNalty,
Elizabeth Tudor, the lonely Queen (out of print)
This book needs
to be used cautiously, as it is one of the old tradition that believed
Elizabeth was bald.
